Lessons on Boys

Today I thought about the difference between my sister, who has three girls, and me.  Our lives are so different because our children are so different.  I thought that I would share what living with boys is like with two different stories.  (Pictures are from our ice cream trip last week.)

Today on the way home from preschool I was asking Lucas all sorts of questions.  I got absolutely no answer.  Nothing.  Just a blank tired stare.  But, somehow my little man perked up just enough to show Samuel his booger.  Samuel said "wow!  booger!"  and then he too preceded to retrieve a booger from his nostril.  They seriously talked about each others boogers the entire way home from school.

Tonight at dinner I tried again to ask questions about Lucas' day.  Again, nothing.  But, he did want to bond with his brother over a little head banging.  They both began to bang their heads on each other and on the table.  Big red marks appeared on each of their foreheads. They thought it was hilarious.  They were both spitting out food because they were laughing so hard.

In conclusion:
First:  if I want a nice conversation about the day I better call one of my female friends/family.
Second:  if I want to bond with my boys I better be gross or destructive.

Lesson Learned.
I love those nasty destructive boys!

Battle of the Wills

Someone has been fighting his nap time...

He thought he was being naughty by doing anything but laying in bed, but Momma got the last laugh.

First Day of School

Sniff, sniff.  My baby went to school today...sniff.  Today was the first time that I have ever left Lucas with someone other than a friend/family.  I was so incredibly nervous about how he was going to feel about it all.  Lucas is going to a MDO program on Thursdays and Fridays this year.  I really thought that he needed this.  He needed some socialization with kiddos his age.  I'm so excited about what they are going to be working on this year.  Lucas seems to really like his teachers.  I know that he will have fun with all of the boys that are in the class.

This is the Weatherford family getting ready to head out to school this morning!  We were all excited!  Even Samuel knew it was a special day because he actually posed with us!

He was melting my heart with his smiles this morning.

This picture is just too much for me.  He looks like a big kid!  When did this happen?
Lukie with his backpack and lunch box.

Samuel celebrating being an only child for a few hours.  Actually, I think that he really missed his brother.  He kept saying"Where's Lukie?  I dunno.  Hmmm.  Where's Lukie"  It was really sweet.

Samuel and Daddy had some quality time today.  It seems like that is too rare.

Lucas did great today.  He was definitely tired by the end (especially since he has been taking long naps almost daily and they don't nap at MDO.)  The teachers said that he was so polite and kind.  I'm so proud of my big boy for taking all of the changes so well.  He is such a trooper.  I cannot wait to see what all he learns and how he changes over the next year.

Stuck

Sometimes updating an old house goes in the order that you had planned and sometimes circumstances cause deviation from that plan.

Our hall bathroom door finally gave out when a guest pulled the doorknob off and couldn't get out.  I was able to pick the lock from the outside and release her from the small room.  That situation happened about a month ago.  Since then, we have mostly used the master bathroom.  Brian and I talked about how we needed to get a door because one of us was going to get locked in when the other was gone and no one was going to be around to help.  SCARY!

Two days ago Brian and Lucas got stuck in the bathroom.  But, this time I could not pick the lock.  Brian tried everything from his side (using a hanger, pulling off hinges, ect.) but nothing was working.

Lucas kept telling Brian  "you can do it Daddy!  Knock that door down!!!"

This is Samuel from my side of the door.  He kept yelling for Daddy!  He was on the verge of panicked to get them out (I think that he was feeling left out...haha.)

Finally, the top hinges came out and Brian bent the top of the door down (breaking it in half...unfixable...done.)  But, we had a huge celebration that the Weatherford family was reunited!

Off to Lowes we went to get a new door.  The privacy factor was slightly important so this renovation was not going to wait.  Brian installed the beautiful door that we had been dreaming of since we moved in.

Now all he has left to do is to install the molding that we bought.  Its going to be bigger than the original and going to add a lot more character to the house.  Now that we know how much each door will cost from start to finish we can begin to install them one at a time.  I'm so excited to see how much this will change the look of our home.  I'm sure I will post more pictures of the finished product.

Gone Fish'n

Some of the Weatherford boys went fishing last weekend.  It was so exciting to get to see three generations spending quality time together.  Lucas loves to fish with the men in his life.  Both pawpaws and his daddy take him whenever they can.  I love that my boys have so many good men in their lives.

This is the vintage inspired "gone fishing" pose.  It makes me laugh every time.  Especially because Lucas got into it too.

Its not 112 degrees anymore!!!!

It is not 112 degrees anymore!  100 degrees has never felt so good. We have been outside a lot more lately.

We have been getting some work done.  Brian cleaned out the car the other day and the boys found some cool stuff to play with.  The helmets are so heavy that the boys are top heavy.  They almost toppled over multiple times.

The boys changed the oil in my car.  At this rate (with all boys) I should never have to pay to have someone change my oil.

We played baseball at Mamaw and Pawpaw's house.

We pouted when we had to share the bat with our brother.  I wonder when that pouty face will not longer look so sweet to me.

 More baseball.

We went fishing and returned home early because of lightning.  Good thing we had some worms to play with.

Anniversary Celebration

We had a great weekend getaway for our anniversary.  It started with a local seafood dinner followed by gelato and a hotel stay.  The next morning we discovered our new favorite french breakfast place and then we shopped.  We had such a great time with just the two of us.  It was a much needed break.  The only complaint was that it was cut short by someone who decided to start a fire in Cleveland County.  Brian worked a lot of overtime that weekend and got all of the the grass fire experience he would ever want.  Thank you so much to Brian's parents for watching the kiddos for us!  We love you guys!!

It's a ...

We were able to sneak a glance of Baby #3 today and we got some exciting news!

Is baby #3 a boy?  or a girl?

Will we have more blue or will we introduce pink?

Will we a boy family or mix it up a little?

Will we push the Laurent cousins to be more boys than girls?

Well, I guess I can't draw it out much longer...

It's

a

BOY!!!!

We are so excited to announce that baby #3 is a boy!  Three boys!  I cannot believe it!  What a joy this little one is going to bring into our lives.
Now the work begins on picking out a name for our little one.

More on that to come!
